BCIS Spring in the City!

Gung Ho! Teamsters Mack and Nancy at BCIS

Gung Ho! Allstars Mack and Nancy at the BCIS Spring in the City event!

Last Saturday Nancy & I set up shop on Beijing City International School’s beautiful campus grounds to sling some pizza slices and spread the word about our new Shuangjing store! It was an amazing event; tons of people were about and the weather was… incredibly cooperative. I mean really. Forecast was for thunderstorms but all we got was non-stop sunshine. Amazing. There was live music, tons of games and events, Gung Ho! buddies Beijing Kids and The Hutong Kitchen were there along with many others. In all we sold nearly two hundred slices of pizza for charity!

Okay, Nancy doesn’t look super happy in the header pic which is weird because she’s basically a ray of sunshine in human form. To the utter surprise of no-one who’s ever ordered from her at Sanlitun, she rocked the stall. It turns out that in college she worked part time at a supermarket pushing samples!

Gung Ho! Allstar Ronan Liu

Big Brother Ronan

See that guy there in the white shirt? That’s Ronan. His team call him Brother Liu. He’s been store manager at Gung Ho! from day one and he’s been working with Jade for nearly 10 years. He started off as a chef at Lush and now he’s in charge of getting new Gung Ho! stores off the ground. Not bad eh? He’s a Gung Ho! Allstar.

Happy Mothers Day from Gung Ho!

From the gang at Gung Ho! Pizza, Happy Mothers Day!

Here’s a vid of the Gung Ho! team (all of them) wishing their mothers a happy mothers day! I forget that like me, nearly all of them are quite far from home. It’s a bit long (3 and a bit minutes) but it’ll make you feel warm and fuzzy inside so why not? It’ll also make you want to call your mum so go ahead and recharge your phone first.

Also, this Mothers Day (Sunday, May 13) we’re giving away 4 egg tarts with every large pizza. Yum!

Love you mum!

Happy April Fools Day

Congrats, not.

Fool me once…

Haha! Sorry, this is just our idea of a good time. The astute may have recognized Nicole from the Titanic English Class video, the Holmes-ian among you realized that July and Ben stand for Jiao Ban, the Chinese name of our company.

On another note, when did flowers get so expensive?

Gung Ho! fans July Wang and Ben Li tied the knot at the Lido branch yesterday. July and Ben met at the Sanlitun branch a year ago and promptly fell in love with the pizza, and each other. When Ben finally proposed, they decided they wanted to do something different – so July thought they’d have the wedding at the place they met! The ceremony was performed by Gung Ho! intern Pieter Van Herck, who registered as a marriage officiant online for the occasion.

After the wedding it was home on the GHP bikes and then off to the airport for a tour of the world’s most famous pizza landmarks, from the birthplace of laobing in China’s north-east, Napoli, Italy and the leaning tower of Piza, and Des Moines Iowa, where they invented the stuffed cheese crust.

They have no plans yet to start a family, but they’re already thinking about it. Says Ben, “if it’s a boy, we’re going to name him Li Jiao Ban”.

Happy April Fools Day :)

Weekly Wrapup

Verne Harnish at Gung Ho HQ

Left to Right: Skott Taylor from New Seed Creative Consulting, Verne Harnish “The Growth Guy”, Josh Lally from our sister company Lush/Pyro, John O and myself from Gung Ho!

Verne Harnish, the “Growth Guy” and author of the Rockefeller Habits has been in town this week to give another seminar. After the show, Michael Wester, Grand Poobah of the Entrepreneurs Organization’s Beijing Chapter (and CEO of The Beijinger) managed to hijack his car and bring him (along with the rest of the EO guys) to Gung Ho HQ for a looksee. Verne Harnish has been a great inspiration to our company – he’s a bloody marvel on stage –  and it was great to show him how many of his tools we put to use.

You can’t tell because I Photoshopped the hell out of myself but I’m quite drunk. Cheers to Campbell Thompson from the Wine Republic! And thanks for Dominic from Plastered 8 for the custom tees!! Caption: “That’s just the light bleed!”
